This workshop arose from a ‘needs analysis’ and was developed by Ian Hammond, John Taylor and Paul McMenamin, with input from our specialist colleagues. The main objective is the development of skills and the improvement of surgical practice. This is an intensive practical skills workshop. It is our experience that the participants will acquire a new range of surgical situations. As you can see from the program the workshop is demanding.

The program has been structured in a graduated fashion starting with clinically relevant surgical anatomy, moving to surgical skills and then further practice of surgical skills and anatomical dissection in the animal laboratory. The final session allows for a stimulating interchange between the participants and faculty that helps us all to understand how best to manage and hopefully prevent the complications which occur as part of our routine practice in obstetrics and gynaecology.

There is a limit of sixteen (16) participants per workshop, ensuring each participant receives maximum benefit from the practical and discussion components. The facilitator/participant ratio is 1:2 in all workshops.

Each participant will receive 17 PR & CRM (Practice Review & Clinical Risk Management) in the continuing professional development program of the RANZCOG. Additional points (5) can be gained by completing a Practice Review worksheet related to the workshop. A further 5-10 points can be gained by a pre- or post- workshop audit. Further details can be obtained from the RANZCOG Continuing Education Co-ordinator, ranzcog@ranzcog.edu.au.
