Ian Hammond is a Certified Gynaecologic Oncologist working at the Western Australian Gynaecologic Cancer Service, King Edward Memorial Hospital for Women in Perth. He was responsible with John Taylor for the development and implementation of the Anatomy of Complications workshop.

Ian is a member of the expert advisory group to the National Ovarian Cancer Program. He is currently Director of Gynaecology at King Edward Memorial Hospital for Women and is an Adjunct Professor in the School of Anatomy and Human Biology at the University of Western Australia. He is actively involved in the training of specialist trainees in O&G and subspecialty trainees in gynaecologic oncology.


John Taylor is a Urological Surgeon and Urogynaecologist, working at the Department of Urology and Urogynaecology at King Edward Memorial Hospital for Women, Perth, Western Australia and in private practice. He was responsible with Ian Hammond for the development of the Anatomy of Complications workshop and has been the driving force behind the interdisciplinary involvement of teachers in our faculty.

John is actively involved in the training of specialist trainees in O&G and in the teaching of urogynaecologic surgical techniques to specialist colleagues.


Paul McMenamin is a Professor in the School of Anatomy and Human Biology at the University of Western Australia. In 2004 he was appointed Associate Dean of Teaching and Learning in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry in the University of Western Australia. He is an authority on the anatomy of the eye and has developed a special interest in pelvic anatomy since being involved in the development of this workshop.

Paul has been responsible for the development and integration of the Anatomy module of this workshop and is the lead facilitator for the anatomy session. He was awarded the 2002 Excellence in Teaching Award from the University. He has been responsible for the concept, design and development of a novel and innovative anatomical wall chart of the surgical anatomy of the pelvis, in conjunction with John and Ian.


Andreas Obermair is a Certified Gynaecologic Oncologist originally from Vienna, Austria. He completed his 3 year subspecialty training in Australia and is now working as a Gynaecologic Oncologist at the Queensland Gynaecological Cancer Centre in Brisbane.

He helped in the development of the special AC workshop for gynaecologic oncology trainees in September 2002 and has been instrumental in organising some evaluation research projects based on the Anatomy of Complications workshop. He will be continuing as a member of the teaching faculty.


Anne Karczub is currently Medical Director of Obstetrics at King Edward Memorial Hospital for Women in Perth, Western Australia. Until recently she has practised as a specialist obstetrician and gynaecologist providing care to the women of Geraldton and the surrounding area in Western Australia.

She attended the first workshop in October 2000, and has been on the teaching faculty since that time. She is heavily involved in the rural undergraduate medical student teaching program and was recently awarded an 'Excellence in Teaching Award' from the University of Western Australia. We are pleased that Anne can spare time to enhance our teaching faculty.


David Allen is a Gynaecologic Oncologist at the Mercy Hospital for Women in Melbourne. He is Medical Director of Gynaecology and Surgical Services at that hospital. He is Head of Gynaecological Surgery at the Peter McCallum Cancer Centre, Chairman of the Gynaecological Cancer Committee, Victorian Cooperative Oncology Group and a member of the Executive of the ASCCP.

He is an enthusiast, keen on computers and website development and we are delighted he joined the teaching faculty in 2004. 


Frank Clark graduated from Newcastle Uni and trained in O&G at KEMH, the UK and Tasmania. He has worked as a GP in remote Australia prior to specialising and now works in private and public practice in Launceston. Frank has a very extensive surgical gynae practice as well as continuing obstetrics. Major laparoscopic surgery, prolapse sugery(initial and recurrent), incontinence surgery and major hysteroscopic procedures are performed. Frank has been a preceptor for the Essure procedure and also helps train other gynaecologists in laparoscopic procedures.

He is involved in medical student and registrar training and is a college assessor for colposcopy. He attended a workshop in 2002 and is looking forward to returning to WA to help with future workshops.


Gerry Wain is a Certified Gynaecologic Oncologist, Director of Gynaecologic Oncology at the Westmead Hospital in Sydney, New South Wales and Director of the Cervical Cancer Screening program in New South Wales.

He is involved in subspecialty training in gynaecologic oncology and is Chair of the gynaecologic oncology subspecialty examination board of the RANZCOG. Gerry has been involved in several workshops and is a keen contributor to innovations in our teaching practice. We are pleased that he is able to continue as a valued member of our teaching faculty.


Greg Robertson is a WA graduate and a Certified Gynaecologic Oncologist working at the St George Hospital and the Royal Hospital for Women in Sydney. He is the Chair of the Gynaecology Group of the Clinical Oncology Society of Australia. He is involved in subspecialty training in gynaecologic oncology and is an enthusiastic teacher.

Greg has been involved in several workshops and was a contributor to the development of a special workshop for gynaecologic oncology trainees.


Henriette Arts completed her training in Gynaecologic Oncology in Perth and returns as a subspecialist in Gynaecologic Oncology to the Netherlands in July 2004.

She completed her specialist O&G training in Groningen in the Netherlands in 2001. She gained a PhD in Ovarian cancer research in 2002. Her first year of subspecialty training was at the university hospitals in Groningen and Rotterdam, and she spent 2003 at the Western Australian Gynaecologic Cancer Service in Perth. She taught at all of the workshops in 2003 and we look forward to her participation in the future.


Jeff Hamdorf is an Associate Professor, Surgical Education at the University of Western Australia. He is a surgeon with a particular interest in upper gastrointestinal and laparoscopic general surgery. He is involved in surgical teaching both at the basic surgical skills courses and the advanced laparoscopic surgical workshops.

He was the Clinical Director of the Hill International Surgical Workshop at CTEC until December 2003 and is especially interested in the development and evaluation of surgical teaching programs. He was involved in the initial planning of the Anatomy of Complications workshop and it is with pleasure that we recognise his contribution to the teaching faculty.


Julia is a staff specialist obstetrician and gynaecologist working at King Edward Memorial Hospital for Women. She trained in Western Australia and has previously participated and facilitated at the workshop. She is involved in registrar training and is an enthusiastic teacher.

We are pleased she is able to continue this role at the workshop. Julia is a strong believer in the need for balance in one’s life, and is able to juggle the demands of work with an active life outside of medicine. We look forward to her working with us in 2004 and beyond.


Krish is a Western Australian medical graduate who trained in O&G in Perth, England and Melbourne. Krish completed a two year fellowship in advanced laparoscopic surgery at the Sydney Women’s Endosurgery Centre (SWEC) and the Centre for Advanced Reproductive Endosurgery (CARE). He now works as a Consultant Gynaecologist and Gynaecological Laparoscopic Surgeon at King Edward Memorial Hospital in the Endoscopy unit, and in Private Practice. He is a Clinical Lecturer in Gynaecology for the University of Western Australia, Examiner and Training Supervisor for the RANZCOG and is on the Basic Surgical Skills Working Committee for the RANZCOG. He is an academic faculty member for CARE and a member of the invited faculty for SWEC. Krish has presented and written nationally and internationally in laparoscopic surgery with particular interests in pelvic reconstructive surgery, endometriosis and the endoscopic management of menstrual disorders. He is a member of the Australian Gynaecology Endoscopy Society (AGES), American Association of Gynecology Laparoscopy (AAGL) and the International Urogynecology Association (IUGA).


Margo Norman is a WA graduate and a specialist obstetrician and gynaecologist at the Joondalup Health Campus in Perth, Western Australia. She has a very busy public and private practice and is actively involved in supervising and teaching trainees in obstetrics and gynaecology. Margo attended the first Anatomy of Complications workshop in October 2000 as a learner and has since joined the workshop teaching faculty. We are pleased that she is able to continue to find time to help us in our endeavour.


Michael Humphrey is curently the Medical Director at the National Womens Hospital, Auckland, New Zealand. He was  Medical Director of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at King Edward Memorial Hospital for Women, Perth, WA during 2003.. He was previously Professor of O&G at James Cook University School of Medicine, based in Cairns, Queensland. He is an enthusiast and a dynamic teacher. He attended the workshop in 2002 and joined the faculty in 2003.

He has had extensive experience in rural O&G with all the problem cases that such locations generate and brings a wealth of clinical experience to our faculty. He has been on the Executive of the RANZCOG Council, and is currently Editor of the Australia and New Zealand Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. We are delighted that he has been able to spare some time to enhance our faculty.


Michael Quinn is an Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology in the University of Melbourne. He is Director of the Gynaecologic Oncology Unit at the Royal Womens Hospital in Melbourne. He was until 2003 a member of the gynaecologic oncology subspecialty examination board RANZCOG and is Chair of the Education Committee of the International Gynaecologic Cancer Society. He is an experienced teacher and directs the Fellowship training program in gynaecologic oncology at the Royal Women's Hospital. Michael joined our teaching faculty in 2003 and we look forward to his continuing input.


Michelle Atherton is a WA graduate and a Certified Urogynaecologist, working in the Department of Urogynaecology at King Edward Memorial Hospital for Women, Perth, Western Australia and in private practice. Her research interests include urge incontinence in postmenopausal women and the development of a surgical training model for anal sphincter repair resulting from obstetric injury. Michelle attended the first AC workshop as a learner and has subsequently been an enthusiastic teacher at several workshops. She continues to bring a refreshing enthusiasm to our faculty.


Neville Hacker is a Certified Gynaecologic Oncologist, Director of the Gynaecologic Cancer Centre at the Royal Hospital for Women at Randwick, Sydney and Associate Professor in the Department of O&G in the University of New South Wales. He has recently retired as Chair of the Examining Board in Gynaecologic Oncology of the RANZCOG, during which time he was responsible for the development of the subspecialty examination process. He is a co-author of Practical Gynaecologic Oncology, now in it's 3rd Edition and is internationally respected as a leading and innovative gynaecologic oncologist. He taught at the workshop for gynaecologic oncology trainees and will be returning to the faculty.


Nic Tsokos is a WA graduate and a Certified Urogynaecologist, currently working in the Department of Urogynaecology at King Edward Memorial Hospital for Women in Perth, Western Australia and in private practice. He was previously a Senior Lecturer in the Department of O&G at UWA and is an experienced clinical teacher in all aspects of the specialty. He was involved in the pilot program that led to the successful development of the Anatomy of Complications Workshop and remains an enthusiastic contributor to the faculty.


Paul Howat is a specialist obstetrician and gynaecologist at Cairns Base Hospital in Queensland. He attended the workshop in 2001and has subsequently joined the teaching faculty. He brings a wealth of hands on clinical experience to the workshop.

He has had extensive experience of managing major obstetric haemorrhage and we look forward to his continued association with the workshop.


Paul Vella is a staff specialist obstetrician and gynaecologist at King Edward Memorial Hospital for Women, Perth, Western Australia. He has recently moved to this position after many years as a Senior Lecturer in the department of O&G, University of Western Australia.

His clinical teaching skills are legendary and he has a practical approach to complex clinical problems. Paul has attended the workshop as a "learner" and we were very pleased to welcome him to our teaching faculty in 2003 and beyond.


Rob Davies was until recently (2003) the Director of the Hill International Surgical Workshop at the Collaborative Training & Education Centre (CTEC). He is a Urological Surgeon at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Perth and in private practice. He has been involved in the development and implementation of new surgical workshops at CTEC. He has been responsible for the development of successful training workshops in TURP, Ureteroscopy and Vasectomy, and is a leading trainer in the basic surgical skills courses for surgical and other trainees. He was involved in one of our early workshops and  returned to the faculty in 2003 making a major contribution to the success of the Urology trainee workshops..


Steve Harding is a Staff Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at King Edward Memorial Hospital for Women and a Clinical Senior Lecturer in the University of Western Australia. He is currently Head of Gynaecology at KEMH. He is an enthusiast and has been involved in Endoscopic and Basic Surgical Skills Teaching Workshops in the UK and in Australia. He will be having a continuing involvement with our workshop and we are pleased to have him as a member of our faculty.


Susan is a staff specialist in obstetrics and gynaecology at King Edward Memorial Hospital for Women in Perth, Western Australia. Originally from Tasmania she did her O&G training in Perth. She has had an exciting time outside of medicine and is an accomplished Tango dance performer.

She has previously participated and facilitated at the workshop and we are delighted that she is able to continue this relationship with our teaching faculty. We look forward to her expanded teaching role in 2004 and onwards.


Tim Jeffery is a WA graduate and a Certified Urogynaecologist working in the Department of Urogynaecology at King Edward Memorial Hospital for Women, Perth, Western Australia and in private practice. He is a member of council at the Medical Defence Association of Western Australia and is interested in risk management in clinical practice. He initially attended the workshop as a learner and has continued to be involved as an experienced educator and surgical teacher.


Tom Jobling is a Certified Gynaecologic Oncologist, Director of Gynaecologic Oncology at Monash Medical Centre, Melbourne and Associate Professor in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Monash University.

He is interested in laparoscopic surgery in gynaecologic oncology and coordinates a major research program in Ovarian Cancer. He is involved in the Monash Endosurgical Preceptorship in advanced laparoscopic surgery. He will continue to be involved with the workshop in 2003/4.


Yee Leung is a Certified Gynaecologic Oncologist working at the Western Australian Gynaecologic Cancer Service at King Edward Memorial Hospital for Women in Perth and is also in private practice.

He is an enthusiastic teacher and is a Training Supervisor for the trainees in the RANZCOG specialist training program. He has a special interest in the assessment of surgical training and is a valued colleague & member of our teaching faculty.
